due to suspicious activity this account is locked wow

So I”m trying to log onto my battle.net account, and I get the above error. I haven”t been hacked (my characters, gold and items according to Armory are all fine) and I really have no idea what this is about. Maybe because it wants me to change my password? It also says about an email supposedly sent to me, but I haven”t received anything.

EDIT: I reset my password and apparently everything is all fine. But why the hell did I receive this in the first place?

Đang xem: Due to suspicious activity this account is locked wow

this happened to my when i logged into my account on another pc with another ip, I had to change my password.

and the same thing again after i logged in on my usual pc.
Can it be related to the password resets in December?

Blizzard won”t say what the exact criteria for this lock are. I assume to keep "hackers" guessing. Though judging from the number of people still whining about their accounts being hacked, this is already a failed experiment. If only they could stop wasting everyone”s time with it. In the meantime you just need to call the phone number they give or whatever, I forget exactly. You might even be able to change your PW without doing that. I don”t know.

Not to get too far off topic but the gawker thing made me laugh a little. People foolish enough to use the same login info on WoW and other websites deserve what they get IMO.
Happens to me 3-4 times a week.

According to Blizzard, its because my IP was changing every time I logged in.

They said theres nothing they can do because its an automated system that flags accounts with "suspicious activities".

I tried calling my ISP to get a static IP address, but that would cost me 30 U$ a month, not happening.

I just change my password and move on, takes like 30 seconds, but i”ll be honest with you, it pisses me off and my passwords are getting angrier each time (I used OMFGLEAVEMEALONE123 once =P)

its from switching IP addresses constantly

i think it has something to do with the AH aswell
my cousin was spam putting mysterious fortune cards on the AH over like 5 weeks, 200 a day ( more ) , his brother came to mine and had to reset his password cause his acc was locked before he could play

There would have to be more than that, I”ve had a dynamic IP for years and have never been flagged for suspicious activity, I”ve logged on from my house in Texas, my dorm in Indiana, my friend”s house in New Jersey, and hotels in Illinois and Arkansas. I would think as long as you aren”t logging in from say California and then ten minutes later logging in from Florida, it shouldn”t be flagged, at least not just because of IP address. I”m not sure what exactly Blizz uses, and I”m sure IP is used somehow, but it can”t be the only thing.

Received the same when I logged onto my account in a different country while on vacation (used my own laptop for it too). It is merely to protect your account from hackers who try to log into your account from an obvious different IP address.

Is it really a big deal? Whenever there is anything that could possibly mean a hacker is working, they suspend your account until you have confirmed it”s in your hands. Be happy they do that BEFORE anything happens, even if it sometimes is a false alarm.

i get this every 3 months, its just a random blizz security thing, follow the links but make sure they are real and acc is back in under 5 mins

Greatly depends on how many flags you already have on said account. Friend of mine can”t even login from work anymore since he has dozens of flags related to gold selling and playing the auction house.
They locked my account once for "exploiting the economy" because I mailed some gold from one of my characters to another on the same account. Their automated system isn”t perfect.
people acting like they know exactly what it is. Sorry kids, it”s a guessing game. Blizzard hasn”t said. All we really know is what blizzard has said, which is that the system is automated, and that IP is one factor. You can all stop saying things about how you act in game like they”re fact now.
this happens to me often as I log on to my Pc, my laptop and my gf”s laptop.

they simply do it when you log on a different ip adress or whenever the location might seem suspicious.

I had that happen a few times right after I resetted my modem.
and also when I had a Friend on the West coast log on my 2nd account to help me do something in-game. (im East coast). It locked it instantly, so I had to change the pass for him to log on.

I really don”t mind that. It”s safer. It honestly suprised me that time and Im happy with it.
i have loged on to my account from several different ip addresses, and have not had an issue with it. i also have an authenticator so i wonder if that is why.
