Quicksand? < edit>
What”s the deal with what I”ve taken to calling quicksand? Basically, there are certain areas of sand — seemingly unrelated to anything else in an otherwise “normal” world — where you can”t stack anything in that spot. You can”t even attach things to the edges of said spot, to try to make a bridge over it.
Is this a bug? Special block type? Special conditions? How does that work?! Chum 21:58, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Are you playing on Survival Multiplayer? That sounds like what happens when there”s a protected area, such as areas near the Spawn. I”ve never encountered this in Alpha single player. -JC 22:09, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Minecarts & sand < edit>
minecarts do not stop sand from falling once removed. the minecart tracks do this. try it! :) –Nahere 23:37, 19 August 2010 (PDT)
Trivia < edit>
Could someone who understands this sentence fragment, “By very slightly covering the edge your player with sand using the manipulation of gravity” rewrite it to make sense?
I”ve removed it because it affects both sand and gravel. If you are curious, look here: Suffocation. No Images there, although I plan to add some there later. –Scykei 01:32, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Starting point? < edit>
Is it true that your starting point is always on a beach somewhere, more specifically on a sand block? If so, it”s probably worth mentioning. Retodon8 13:32, 24 October 2010 (CDT)
Well, I”VE always spawned on sand. Jaeil 20:50, 24 October 2010 (UTC) I once spawned on top of a mountain… but spawning on beaches is particularly common.–Funkadacious
I haven”t heard of there being any coding to make sure/likely you spawn on sand, but now that you say it, I must admit it happens too me quite often. Not always, but usually there just about always water near the spawn… –TheKax 16:18, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
Floating < edit>
has anyone else had floating sand on new maps since the update? Two of the times, I destroyed one of the blocks and all the others fell. I haven”t seen it before the update. –Oneshot. 13:17, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
Very old. –ultradude25 (T |C ) at 14:26, 23 February 2011 (UTC) I still have been seeing it… It”s called a Sand Cave if there”s a cave underneath. Floating sand is not very rare, however players can not create floating sand (Correct if I”m wrong). –The preceding unsigned comment was added by LeopardStar (Talk|Contribs) 22:29, 28 March 2011. Please sign your posts with ~~~~! I looked into it some yesterday; according to what I”ve read, the closest you can come (short of map editing) is faking floating sand by placing it above minecart tracks, torches, etc. 「ダイノ ガイ 千？！ 」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:50, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Multiplayer annoyane < edit>
Should we add a sub-section in Power-mining about how it can destroy beaches ? It”s very common you see big trenches in natural beaches whit just one sand wall holding the water, and it annoys the hell out of the admins in most servers because it looks very unnatural. Instead you can just cut one couch of sand, and then cut the one undernearth it so it still looks natural whit like 3 blocks of difference at each couch. Dylanstrategie 10:44, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
Nope, you can”t do it anything vs it. Calinou – talk × contribs » 10:51, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
Glitch < edit>
One time, I just loaded my world. My walls were made of sand. I didn”t remove anything. And I walked through the wall. –User:Xots –The preceding undated comment was added on 18:52, 31 August 2011. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Separate yellow and red sand < edit>
I”d like to recommend separating yellow and red sand with sections, for better readability and clarity. Thanks! –Robotkoer (talk) 12:29, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
What exactly do you mean? Which sections should be separated? —Fenhl 12:56, 27 September 2013 (UTC) I meant infobox and paragraph.

I see that infobox has been created, now creating a separate paragraph like in Tree, Fish etc would make sense. Would do it by myself but I”m not too familiar with Wikis” code :( –Robotkoer (talk) 17:22, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
I don”t think it”s necessary to have a separate section and infobox for red sand, there are only 2 sentences in that section and the only differences between it and regular sand are that red sand spawns in mesas, has a different texture and can”t be crafted into sandstone. Goldenpotatoes (talk) 13:45, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
Red Sand Damage Value? < edit>
What distinguishes red sand from normal sand datawise? They seem to have the same block id. I”m guessing it is the damage value, and if someone can confirm and include them it would be great.
Red sand has a damage value of 1. I have added this to the infobox. —Fenhl 17:07, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Just Curious < edit>
This is not so much about the article as it is a prediction. Does anyone else have even a vague beginning of a hunch that red sand is a blatantly obvious clue about an upcoming stained glass block? Anyone? 126.96.36.199 02:02, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
Vandalism on sand with Racist comments < edit>
Can someone fix this page its been vandalized. –188.8.131.52 22:40, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Reverted. — Mustek 23:11, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Floating sand < edit>
There are ways to make floating sand, and there have been for quite some time. (This works with carpets too.) If a:
crop or stem is destroyed by removing the farmland below it crop or stem is destroyed by a player or mob jumping on its farmland block (is the Silverfish the only one that can fit?) plant is destroyed by removing the farmland or grass/dirt below it (not counting sugarcane) two-high plant is destroyed by removing its lower half mushroom is destroyed by removing the block below it lily pad is destroyed because the water was replaced (either by using a bucket on it, or placing a block in the same spot as the water)
no block update will be generated.
If a sand block (or any gravity-related block) or carpet is put on such a block, and that block is removed in this way, the sand/carpet will remain floating.
The following two only get destroyed after the block receives an update (by the sand or carpet being placed on top of it, in this case):
mushroom is destroyed because of a too-high light level lily pad is destroyed because it was placed on non-source water block
and only create floating carpets. (Sand falls.)
These are all survival friendly.
Falling Sand infobox < edit>
Falling sand really doesn”t need an infobox unless falling gravel has one. That”s just my 2 cents.

FallingSand is the entity savegame id, and is used for summon command, ect. Gravel uses the same entity id. If you think they should be the same, add information to gravel, don”t remove it from sand. KnightMiner (talk) 17:17, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
Renewable? < edit>
Sand generators exist. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkfUHx18uLw 220.127.116.11 17:39, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
Sand generators have always been a bug, as ther behavior is not intended and Mojang has fixed various designs several times. If we are going to cover renewable via bugs, every item becomes renewable using item duplication bugs. –KnightMiner t/c 01:49, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
Some missing content < edit>
In “History”, it isn”t mentioned the 1.10 fallingdust paricles, please fix it.

Done. Also on gravel and on snow (layer) (in the pocket section) — good catch. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 15:13, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
Rotation < edit>
The “Rotation” tag is listed in the “FallingSand entity” section of the “Data Values” section, under “Tags common to all entities”. But it doesn”t seem to work on either axis. MCweb 19:22, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
Its “Rotation” tag doesn”t seem to make a visual difference, no. It”s set, though, because when you change it, the entity data says it”s “successfully updated”. These kinds of exceptions might be a good thing to note in the Sand/BE page. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 21:51, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
Shouldn”t falling_sand be a different page? < edit>
It should, mainly because, even tho it”s called falling_sand, is a different thing, not just for sand but for every block. idk if there is a Gravity page, if there is we could move falling_sand there instead
