Cake. Is it actually a lie? In Minecraft, no! It isn’t! You probably got a rumbling tummy and you just want to fill it up with some good food. Maybe you just want to use your culinary prowess on something different than soup and bread. Whatever it is, I got the food for you! For parties or the overindulgent, prepare to bake!
It all started around 2010. It was the Indie of the Year Awards, and Notch, the creator and head developer of Minecraft at the time promised to add cake into the game if Minecraft won. The game went on to win ‘Most Innovative’ and so cake was added in the 1.2 update.
An odd food, this one is. Unlike other foods, you cannot eat cake in your hotbar, but it must be placed down on a block to eat it. Cake does not stack. Once placed, each time you interact with the cake you will eat a slice, removing a chunk of it. You can eat seven chunks before the cake is done. Each chunk fills up a full hunger bar. (a full leg, or two hunger points)
November 23rd, 2010 – Notch stated if Minecraft won the 2010 Indie of the Year Award, he would add cake to Minecraft.
Update 1.14 – The texture of cake has been changed. It now has fewer cherries in total, but a bigger cherry in the middle.
May 17-20, 2019 – Cakes displayed a “10” above them to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the public version of Minecraft being released.
How to craft a cake in Minecraft
Cake is arguably the most tedious food to craft in Minecraft. Here’s what you’ll need:
3 Milk Buckets2 Sugar1 Egg3 Wheat
That’s all I got for you! Cakes are pretty simple rectangular prisms that will liven up any gathering you have. They’re more for the wow factor rather than actually offering a sustainable food source. If you’re looking for that, try farming. The cake takes ingredients from all different types of sources such as cows milk, wheat from the ground, sugar from sugar cane, and eggs from chickens. Although it takes time, you’re rewarded with quite a fun experience! Try and make your own, and with that, have a great day!
