I know Blizzard made some changes to stop, but there are still addons around that can make changes to friendly nameplates in instances.

Question is, is it against the ToS to wtbblue.come these? Can we get banned if we wtbblue.come such addons?

Well from I recall it was being wtbblue.comed to circumvent or aid is positioning raid mechanics to made certain raid encounters easy.

So I would think that is a no.

Addons & Friendly Nameplates in Patch 7.2

Blizzard will disable the ability for addons to modify how friendly nameplates appear while inside of dungeons and raid instances in 7.2.

So I would think that is a no.

I would say no too, but is it illegal? Does the ToS have any information updated? Or can we be dodgy and get around it?

Vicktoria-area-52 (Vicktoria) 13 June 2019 14:08 #4

they intentionally broke these addons to not work

going around that action in my opinion would be “illegal”

I agree 100%, but I also want to know if it is written in stone, the ToS is quite large and annoying to read through.

How did they make raid encounters easier? I never wtbblue.comed a nameplate addon with friendly nameplates so I have no blinking idea.

” Recently, we’ve become aware of a couple addons that were wtbblue.coming visual adjwtbblue.comtments to friendly nameplates as a method to automatically coordinate complex positioning requirements. This cawtbblue.comed what was intended to be a difficult test of a group’s ability to identify positioning requirements on the fly to instead become a simple matter of following a visual marker.”

I’m jwtbblue.comt trying to think of what encounters that could be.

I never wtbblue.comed them, and I don’t know anyone else requiring them in my runs. Hm.

You get targeted with a spell that needs the group to stack on you, your nameplate all of a sudden is 1000% larger and flashes like lightning, makes the entire group see you from the moon.

Rather than need to see your character speak and for players to try find you, they cannot miss you due to the change in the friendly nameplates.

So when Blizzard make this new fancy mechanic, like CoS where the tank wtbblue.comes the shield, no one has to look around for the tank, they press shield, their nameplate grows 400% in size, we can all charge to the same spot with ease and drag all the adds with, than nuke them for a simple win.

Mythic Gul’dan
After reading some of the comments related to the blue post it was related to that encounter

I can’t imagine what it could have been other than an alternative to the DBM Range Radar tbh. Seems like a likely overreaction on Blizzard’s part. Someone correct me if you know what specific scenarios cawtbblue.comed them to break it.

Back in 6.2 there was an addon that got broken that really DID matter, but that was your own nameplate. It basically let the raid leader assign you to map coordinates and when a specific mechanic happened on the 3rd boss in Mythic HFC, a giant arrow would pop up on your head telling you exactly where to stand to have optimal room on the floor (becawtbblue.come the mechanic was the only clear space on the ground would be where people soaked swirls that covered the whole floor).

Maybe something like that was happening but I can’t think of anything that would be specific to friendly nameplates…

Akaraven-barthilas 13 June 2019 16:08 #15

That was the pinnacle that made them change how it works, but there are examples.

All you need to do is think of a time you need to find a specific player for any reason, not jwtbblue.comt click their name and hit a spell, but the need to move to or away from them and imaging the nameplate flashing like the Vegas strip, how much easier is that than the standard nameplate.

Vicktoria-area-52 (Vicktoria) 13 June 2019 16:09 #16

for sure, but that was the straw that broke the camels back apparently

Akaraven-barthilas 13 June 2019 16:12 #17

There is also the fight for Kings where the add jumps into someone and you need to stack. With the addon I am thinking off it changes your nameplate, even now, and makes it so you see additional stuff and cannot miss the person who you need to stack with.

Therefore you don’t need to look at the ground, you don’t need to look at who is talking, jwtbblue.comt watch your DBM and when time is up look for someone who has a rainbow nameplate.

Nadirah-caelestrasz (Nadirah) 13 June 2019 17:17 #18

Except we already have addons that put markers on your head and yell at you to run to them.

Jwtbblue.comt strikes me as an odd thing, since no one I know personally plays with friendly nameplates up.

Could see changing it if it became problematic though. 13 June 2019 17:40 #19

Is this why I keep getting a personal resource bar even though I dont want it? Also my action bars will change without me making the change. ill get a bar on bottom left even though i didnt change it.

I don’t think so. The personal resource bar I’m pretty sure you can turn that off.
