Đang xem: Luminous beings are we not this crude matter

I was so submerged in the Star Wars culture at the age of eight, I even asked my dad to build me a spaceship similar to Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing. As I look back at that time, I’m just blown away by the power of imagination and belief.

If I wasn’t attempting to move the remote with the power of the Force, I was using a broom as a lightsaber. I guess you can say, I was hooked!

The interesting thing with Star Wars is that I never really grew out of it. As I got older even into my adult years, I found myself referring back to wisdom of the one and only Master Yoda.

Although a fictional character, the essence that is Yoda, for me, is as real as the words on this page. I always used to dream that I would one day write about Master Yoda, or even pay homage to his brilliance with a Star Wars fan film.

The only problem was, I was fearful of what others would think, but more importantly, I didn’t believe in myself.

I was perusing Youtube one day a few years back and came across a video called, “Yoda Wisdom.” I was intrigued immediately.

As I was watching intently, the scene where Luke and Yoda are in Dagobah and he is teaching Luke about the Force and then one of the most power quotes of my life unfolded:

“Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.”

Yoda proceeds to raise the X-wing out of the murky swamp onto land. As you might know, Luke replies, “I don’t believe it!”

“That is why you fail…”

That was the first time that I had discovered the real truth of life for everyone of us. It came from Yoda.

“The only time we fail in life is when we truly do not believe in ourselves to the undeniable point of knowing that what we desire is already true.”

A lot has changed since then, I’m happy to say! I’ve completed a script for a Star Wars Fan Film, and today, I’m going to write about, not only my favorite Star Wars character of all time, but one of my favorite spiritual leaders of all time, Yoda!!

Yoda’s wisdom is not just for Jedi, but for anyone willing to see the truth of existence.

This is by far one of the most exciting articles I’ve ever had the intent of writing. Without further a dew, let’s hop into some of Yoda’s greatest teachings.

1.“Luminous beings are we…not this crude matter.” In this famous quote, aforementioned, from the Empire Strike’s Back scene of He and Luke in Dagobah, Yoda shows us what we truly are. We aren’t just our bodies that appear to be solid, “crude” matter, we are universal energy that possess the light to illuminate any path we choose.

This is a responsibility and privilege that all humans have. They only have to be aware of it.

The moment we discover that we are more than our bodies, we have the power to transcend any limitations that appear to be impossible to rise above.

2.“Do. Or do not. There is no try.” Once again, this is an opportunity for a greater understanding within our own lives. The energy of trying is filled with doubt. Why? Well, because trying denotes the inclination that we aren’t really sure of a clear intention.

We “hope” that things will work out, but in actuality, it’s not something we necessarily believe.

Do or do not implies that it is important to have faith in your choices. Your choices shape your life and have the power to bring about whatever you choose.

Detach from the outcome, but be firm in your decisions.

3. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing.” Another favorite of mine because it emphasizes the significance of being present. Only when we are mindful do we get to experience calmness, peace and trust in the force.

The second we leave the moment, we are susceptible to living unconsciously which can lead to anxiety, frustration and misfortune.

Yoda knew that there was no way Luke could be a Jedi without being focused on RIGHT NOW!

Like Luke, only when we focus on the now does our power become amplified to live it in a more powerful fulfilling way.

4.“Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.” This has been one of the ringing themes in my life all year long. It took me through the arduous process of learning that the Force, or life, will always give us the best possible outcome if we allow it to take over the reigns.

For most of my life, I needed to be in control. I needed to be attached to the outcome.

Only when I realized that letting go was actually letting the Universe into my life to create the best possible scenario, was I able to eliminate my deepest fear.

Yoda was completely aware that holding on, blurs our vision to the life’s greatest objective: Peace and self authenticity.

5.“You must unlearn what you have learned.” Yoda understood that most of us have just been taught to survive instead of thrive. For most of us, we have become a product of the system that doesn’t allow us to see “the true power of the force within ourselves.”

But this does not have to be the end. You must unlearn what you have learned! In the way you think, feel and act, reprogram yourself to have faith in the awareness that you are, “The Force.”

I was meditating on my past life as a Tibetan monk and came up with a quote that completely explained how we can unlearn what we have learned:

“In every moment, you must forget. You must forget the identity that created who you believe yourself to be. Instead, be the moment! Vast, unlimited, ever-present is the moment and so are you when you learn to just accept what you truly are.”

Only the beginning this is, as Yoda would say. Five down and five more to go. For by the time this two part series is done, you too will feel the power of the force.
