Minecraft Mariculture Guide, Mariculture (+1) On Crafting Guide

Howdy Folks! I'm playing with a mod pack in which the main 3 things are Witchery, Thaumcraft, and mariculture. I've explored the first two, but I'm having trouble breaking into the third. Does anyone have a handy wiki or begginers tute or anything? I find the in-game books unhelpful at best, so anything really would be helpful. Ideally it would not be a video source.

Thanks folks!

Here are the first steps you need to take in Mariculture:

Craft the basic fishing rod made out of sugar cane.

Craft a sifter (multiblock, place the blocks next to each other).

Throw a couple of stacks of dirt onto the sifter. This will give you ant bait and worm bait (I think the basic rod takes both, but I'm not sure anymore. Press shift and hover over the fishing rod to see which bait it takes).

Put the bait in your inventory bar and start fishing. Try to get like 10 raw fish (any). If you get any live fish, great, but you need the raw fish first. Don't turn the live fish into raw fish!

Make 2 vats (the recipe gives you 2, but if you can afford to, make 2 2×2 vats).

Fill one of the vats with lava and chuck in a bunch of bricks to turn them into burnt bricks.

Craft and build a crucible furnace (two block multiblock). You can place the furnace on top of a Mariculture tank and it will take liquid fuel (such as lava, oil etc.) from the tank to fuel itself. The type of fuel you give the crucible furnace determines its temperature. Lava is fine for most things. It will take some time (like 5 minutes) to heat up and constantly consume some to stay at max temperature. If you can afford it, keep the crucible furnace at max temperature always (to avoid heatup).

Throw some of your raw fish in the crucible furnace to make fish oil. Hovering over the fish while in the furnace gui will show how many buckets you get from that type of fish (salmon is pretty good).

Pump the fishoil into your second vat. Put sticks in to turn them into polished sticks. You want at least 9.

Craft an automatic fisher. This requires 2 wooden fishing rods made out of polished sticks. You need the 3 wooden fishing rod to put inside the fisher.

Craft an aquatic analyzer (not sure about the name anymore, it looks like a thermometer).

Now you are ready to get some live fish. Right click with the analyzer on a block and it will give you water temperature and salinity. A couple of notes: temperature will drop by around 10 deg during night. Going further up and down from sea level will lower temperature. The book tells you about temperature and salinity requirements of the fish you can catch.

If you found a place where you want to fish, put down the auto fisher over a waterblock, give it power, a fishing rod and appropriate bait. Without upgrades it's very slow and most of the fish will be raw, but with time you will get some live ones. The easiest to get are Minnow (basically any fresh water pond), Nightfish (anywhere, just needs to be nighttime) and the Netherfish (place auto fisher over lava in Nether).

To start breeding you need a male and female fish and a fish feeder in a tank. Before you start building the tanks, craft a fish scanner. It will show you among other things, the necessary tank size for the specific fish (number of water source blocks needed in tank). The tank can be build out of any solid blocks (including glass). Check salinity and temperature of the spot where you want to build your tank and if it corresponds to the needs of the fish that you want to breed. If it doesn't you will need add upgrades to the fish feeder. Be advised that if the temperature during the night drops below the necessary temperature for the fish, I have had the bug(?) that the fish don't resume their activity automatically again the next day. Edit: Forgot that you need droplets for the scanner. So breed a couple of basic fish such as Minnows first to get the droplets required.

Put fish into fishfeeder, add fishfood (made out of bait or raw fish) and wait.

Skip the hatchery and build an incubator to hatch the eggs.

You will need to expand your factory setup quite a bit to craft the upgrades. An oyster farm is required to progress through the magic module of the mod.
