Welcome to wtbblue.com”s guide to the Weapon Skill system in WoW wtbblue.com, detailing trainer locations, how to level weapons, list of weapons each class can equip, and how to increase skill through items.
What is Weapon Skill?
Weapon skill represents your proficiency with a type of weapon, and increasing your weapon skill reduces your chance to miss when attacking a target. All characters start out with a few weapon skills depending on their chosen class and race, and can train additional weapon skills from Weapon Masters in each major city.
While spells in wtbblue.com WoW can be resisted (comparable to missing with a melee weapon), weapon skill is not taken into consideration when determining if a spell will hit. Weapon skill is only a factor for melee attacks.
Characters at level 1 start with a weapon skill cap of 5, and the weapon skill cap value increases by 5 based on your level. At level 60, a character”s weapon skill cap will be 300.
Some items and racial abilities grant additional weapon skill, which can exceed the skill cap of 300. For example, the Orc racial ability and the epic world drop item Edgemaster”s Handguards.
Weapon skills can be trained at any level with the exception of Polearms, which requires level 20.
While players must train to learn how to equip Fist Weapons, Fist Weapons do not teach a separate weapon skill and instead utilize the Unarmed skill. In which case, players can level up their Unarmed skill by unequipping their weapon and punching enemy monsters before they learn how to use Fist Weapons.

Effects Against NPCs (PvE)
When fighting mobs, there are a few formulas that calculate the base chance for your attack to be dodged, parried, miss or critically hit based on your weapon skill and the mob”s Defense skill.
Against mobs with defense roughly equal to or higher than your weapon skill, there is a chance to land a Glancing Blow instead of a normal hit. A Glancing Blow only occurs on white melee damage, cannot crit, and does less damage than a normal blow.
Leveling weapon skill is significant as it will make it easier to attack and deal consistent damage to mobs.

It will also help determine how much Hit you will need against raid bosses to further deal consistent damage.
NPC Effects Against Players (PvE)
Mobs also have weapon skills which determine if its attacks will be blocked, parried, dodged, miss, or critically hit you (which is also based on your Defense skill).
If a mob”s weapon skill is at least 20 points higher than the target”s level-capped Defense skill, there is a chance the target will receive a Crushing Blow. A Crushing Blow is a normal or critical hit by an NPC that deals 150% of the damage it would normally cause.
If a mob hits a target from behind, and the target takes damage from the hit that isn”t absorbed, there is a chance that the player will be Dazed (based on their Defense skill). The base chance for a level 30+ target to be dazed when hit from behind, if the mob”s weapon skill is equal to the target”s Defense skill, is 20%.
Effects Against Players (PvP)
Weapon skills are maxed in PvP combat, so leveling a weapon skill for PvP is relatively unimportant. When attacking an enemy player, your weapon skill will always be considered to be your level times 5 (X*5), and your target”s Defense will always be treated as their level times 5 (X*5) before any Defense rating from your target”s gear is taken into account.
While weapon skill does not affect your chance to hit enemy players in battlegrounds, it still affects your hit chance against enemy players in world PvP or duels.
Leveling Weapon Skill
Each attack that is not evaded has a chance to increase weapon skill (evading enemies will not increase weapon skill, unfortunately). With lower weapon skill, the skill gain rate is at or near 100%, however the skill gain change begins to sharply decrease once the weapon skill cap is approached. At 10% away from the cap, the skill gain is roughly 50%, and gaining the final skill points can take some time (at which point your attacks should not be missing nearly as often).
The chance per swing appears to be unrelated to weapon swing speed, so a quicker weapon should result in a higher chance to increase weapon skill. Depending on your class, utilize instant attacks such as Sinister Strike and Hamstring to increase your weapon skill faster.
Intellect also increases the rate at which weapon skills are learned, so if possible try to acquire an intellect buff or use an intellect scroll. Equipping any gear with +intellect will also help in gaining weapon skill.
Weapon Skill Training Cost
Training for each weapon skill costs , with the exception of Polearms, which costs .
Weapon Masters are accessible in each faction”s major city, although each Weapon Master can train different weapon skills. Each Weapon Master has a dialogue option that will tell the player exactly where to go to train a specific weapon skill.

Hit Cap Clarification (Blue Post)
The World of Warcraft: wtbblue.com development team has also clarified how the hit cap works in relation to raid bosses and defense skill, which is relevant to weapon skill.
