Back to Stormsong Valley

From the end of Part 3: the Marshal”s Grave, it”s time to track down a Tidesage to help us find the long lost body of Marshal Valentine. Good thing that Rexxar has been tracking one down and has had a recent breakthrough.

We head to Stormsong Valley and learn more about the Tidesage that Rexxar has tracked. He”s at a camp nearby and has been staying there with his family. We”re warned that tidesages are powerful foes and have mastery over all the elements with some even manipulating the Void!

Searching for the Tidesage

Heading east, we spot a small camp on Tidebreak Summit and see a woman and two children residing there.

We approach and the following conversation starts.

Rexxar: Hrm, the tidesage was here some time ago, I watched him protect and serve his family.

Lilian Voss: Well, I could make a few threats to the woman, see if she gives us some details…

Rexxar: There is no honor in that. We can just ask. We have no qualms with a crying mother.

<Rexxar approaches>

Julia Zelling: The Horde… are you here to take more from me? My husband is dying, I”m penniless… just leave my children be, please.

Rexxar: All I want to know is your husband”s location. No harm will come ot you or your family.

Julia Zelling: Anything you do couldn”t be worse than the disease… he went east to die in peace, away from the children. Please, just leave us be.

Rexxar: We must hurry if we are to get this tidesage”s help.

Đang xem: Wow death of a tidesage

Heading to the east side of Tidebreak Summit, we find the tidesage, Thomas Zelling dying next to a flowing river and talking out loud about his disease.

Thomas Zelling:: The Void, the elements <cough>… can nothing stop this damned disease? Why did it have to end like this?

Player: I”m here to ask for your help, not to kill you.

Lilian Voss: <player> is right, sort of. You won”t get hurt if you help us, preferably before you die.

Thomas Zelling: One of the Forsaken. Perhaps it”s a <cough> sign. Tell me, miss…?

Lilian Voss: I”m the one asking the questions. Can you track people? Objects?

Thomas Zelling: Miss Voss. Did you retain any sicknesses, any diseases that you had in life when you were returned?

Lilian Voss: Do not try my patience, or I”ll make you wish your disease already killed you. I need to see how good your magic is before we go any further.

Thomas Zelling: Is my family safe?

Lilian Voss: I said do not try my–

Thomas Zelling: I must know if my family is safe! <cough>

Rexxar: They are safe. Help us and we will continue to ensure their safety.

Thomas Zelling: <cough> I… I will do what I can, Miss Voss. You want someone or something located, correct? Let me see what I can do without my book…

Thomas Zelling: There are Alliance and Kul Tiran forces at Sagehold. They are awaiting reinforcements and are vulnerable to an attack at this moment.

LIlian Voss: Good. Prove how useful you can be to the Horde and we”ll see how much longer we let you live this life.

Sagehold

Since Thomas Zelling has let us know that Sagehold is vulnerable, we decide to take advantage of it. Lilian wants us to strike fear in the tidesage recruits and Kul Tirans builders by using a Val”kyr horn. Meanwhile, we need to kill some of the guards and captains to retrieve the Book of Forbidden Magics for Zelling. As the quests are accepted, the RP continues.

Thomas Zelling: <wheeze> You”re not concerned I may attack you? Try to run?

Lilian Voss: You”d be dead before your next pathetic cough, Zelling. Care to test me?

Thomas Zelling: No, but you can you answer my question? When you become Forsaken, are you purged of any sicknesses?

After proving that Zelling”s intel about Sagehold was true, Zelling tells us that LIlian wants a showing of what his powers really are. Zelling instills a magical font inside us that absorbs void essence. When it”s full, it allows us to unleash wind magic! He instructs us to go to Port Fogtide and fill up the font.

Filling up the font and unleashing the wind magic makes a large cyclone that carries us all the way back up the summit.

By the Will of the Dark Lady

With Lilian Voss impressed by Zelling”s power it”s time to get him to locate the body of Valentine.

Player: Zelling, we need you to locate Marshal Valentine”s corpse for us.

Thomas Zelling: <wheeze> I”m… sorry. I.. can”t… I don”t have anything… left in me…

Lilian Voss: Zelling! Damn you, we need you alive!

Thomas Zelling: Miss Voss, <cough> please… bring me back… I must help my family… I”ll do anything… anything…

Lilian Voss: You”ll be shunned if you become one of us. You look in a mirror and all you”ll see is a monster.

Thomas Zelling: I would… damn my soul… for all eternity… if it meant my family”s happiness… please! You must…

Thomas Zelling: You… must…

<Thomas Zelling dies>

Rexxar: Lilian. We can find other tidesages. You know his family won”t accept him.

Lilian Voss: We”ll see. Maybe it can be different… just this one time.

<Lilian Voss summons a Val”kyr>

Kyra: Lilian Voss. Why have you called upon me?

Lilian Voss: Bring this man back. He has been chosen to become Forsaken.

Kyra: As you command, by the will of the Dark Lady.

<Thomas Zelling is resurrected as a Forsaken and Kyra leaves>

Thomas Zelling: I… I live! Hahaha! I must see Julia and the children at once. They will be delighted!

<Thomas Zelling runs off>

Lilian Voss: I guess we”ll see what happens now.

To Be Forsaken

Well, it”s likely this won”t turn out well, so we”ll need to catch up with Zelling.

Julia Zelling: For the last time, STAY BACK! You are NOT my husband!

Thomas Zelling: Why won”t you understand?! I”m your husband…. Children, it”s your daddy!

Hannah Zelling: Stay away!

Matthraw Zelling: Momma, I”m scared of the monster!

Thomas Zelling: Daddy is right here. Listen to my voice! Why aren”t you understanding this?!

Hannah Zelling: Keep it away!

Matthew Zelling: Momma! Help us!

Thomas Zelling: Quiet!

Julia Zelling: Leave us be!

Matthew Zelling: Get it away!

Hannah Zelling: Make the monster go away!

Thomas Zelling: THAT”S ENOUGH!

Thomas Zelling: I… I…

Julia Zelling: I don”t know who you are, but my husband NEVER tried to hurt me or his children. We are leaving… do not follow us!

Thomas Zelling: No… Julia… Matthew… Hannah… what have I done? What… am I?

Lilian Voss: I tried to warn you, Zelling. The process changes you. The living won”t accept you anymore.

Thomas Zelling: And where does that leave me? A mindless servant of the Banshee Queen?

Lilian Voss: Embrace the Forsaken and carve your own path. You”ll be amongst those who accept you for what you”ve become.

Thomas Zelling: I will join you… and help you find Marshal Valentine. As long as you promise that my family remains unharmed.

Lilian Voss: You have my word. Come, <player>, return to Nathanos and inform him that we have what we need.

Seeing Voss willingly work with the Horde and Forsaken, talking about them positively, and even forcibly resurrecting people is just really… weird.

I wonder if she is aware of what happened at the Forsaken/Human meeting prior to BfA….

Personally, I doubt it (due to how she”s talking), but we”ll see if she has any presence in the book or not that proves otherwise.

Part 5 will be what, we help Voss kill Zelling”s family because Sylvanas doesn”t want the Alliance to know she”s raising the Kul”tirans?

Well, probably.

What I want to know is why (apart from the meta reason of not wanting to make new models) he instantly turned into a rotten decayed monster. I mean he was still fresh and he died of sickness instead of wounds so he should have been pretty intact for a while. At least long enough to say goodbye.

Probably to make us feel sympathy for the Forsaken in general. “Look at how the living hate and shun us for no reason! Ignore the atrocities committed by our leader! We’re still the victims damn it!”

i doubt it, the ending of that meeting was most likely kept secret and sylvanas most likely said the alliance was at fault

So he actually asks Lilian to raise him, she doesn”t appear to force it on him.

I mean, he came through the portal with the original Horde. He helped defend Thrall”s Horde from Kul”Tiras. He helped the horde in Outland during BC… Rexxar is definitely a Horde character, especially where Kul”Tiras is concerned.

Rexar was part of the Horde. And the Horde isn”t a monstrous faction, just overrun by a homicidal dead ranger, which whom I didn”t like being warchief. Vol”jin have chosen blindly.

Apparently (haven”t seen the text myself yet) she says something about the Alliance being the ones to have killed the Forsaken there.

Which if true pretty much points to Sylvanas straight up lying about what happened, and more than likley uses that lie to spur the horde into attacking Teldrassil.

Yeah the story kinda falls apart there, unless they retcon all the stuff about Forsaken that”s come before and say; "OH WELL THE PROCESS OF BEING REZZED FORSAKEN STRAINS YOUR BODY/TISSUES/BLAHBLAHBLAH"

Which at this point I would not be surprised by. At all.

If this is "morally grey" by Blizzard”s standards, whoever”s doing the writting or passing down the information as that is definitely a psycopath

Game of Thrones” style is not working with Warcraft”s lore. Just saying.

Force? She did not force him. He asked, she tried to dissuade him but he did ask. The only bit of text that seemed odd to me was when she told Kyra to resurrect him because he had been chosen instead of saying that he had chosen to become Forsaken.

I know that the whole thing seems out of character for Voss given her history and what we know about her but we don”t know what has happened to her between the last time we see her and now. Perhaps, as has been mentioned, she has been lied to about what happened at the Horde/Alliance Summit and is being manipulated by Sylvanas to help carry out her plans.

We want heroes and villains in both sides who inspires and motivates us. This Nietzsche”s morality just doesn”t fit with Warcraft.
