Feral, the Melee DPS specialisation for Druids, forms its core gameplayaround balancing two separate resources while leveraging those to applypoweful Bleed DoT effects on targets. Alongside that, Energy and ComboPoints are used in tandem to set up high burst windows via poolinggameplay. Feral in Shadowlands has remained mostly a similar package withsome small tweaks, so those who have played it in previous expansionsshould feel at home.
We are maintaining a list of changes for Druids, so you can seewhat changed between Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands. The new expansion also introduces new character customization optionswith Covenants and Legendary Powers, for which we have Druid-specificpages that you can access below.
Solid single-target damage. Very high mobility and flexibility in a raid environment. Strong survival tools. Flexible talent choices, allowing for advantages in different fight archetypes.
Can require ramp-up to reach full damage on priority targets. Strong AoE tools are DoT-based so burst can be lacking. Some damage profiles require talents that push you strongly into one direction. Gameplay relies on pooling and smart resource management, which can be punishing. Low base utility in raids as a melee spec.
Feral is one of the more complex specs to grasp due to relying on a dualresource system that both requires you to manage and pool them correctly atdifferent times. It has a slow passive resource in Energy that can beconverted into Combo Points via generator spells, such as
Shred, and then spent on finishing moves, such as
Alongside this, Feral also has Bleed mechanics that apply debuffs to your targetthat require different resources, e.g.
Rake needing Energy and
Ripneeding Combo Points. This creates a spec that, on paper, seems very busy witha lot to pay attention to, but tends to play slower and more measured. This putsmore weight into your decision making and foresight, rather than your snap gameplay.Once you grasp the concepts however, it tends to click into place and becomesa lot more fluid to manage, it just takes a little practice!
If you have never played Feral before and are looking to learn the basicsof what the spec has access to, we recommend looking through our Spell Summary first, as wellas the Easy Mode page linked below too.
